Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is Nostalgia Pie?
Unfortunately no one has got around to designing that time machine just yet, so if you want to go back in time, Nostalgia Pie is what you have to hop into for a trip back to the seventies, eighties, and nineties - although occasionally we do make stops at the sixties and noughties! Nostalgia Pie is a site that takes a look at British popular culture and social history throughout the decades mentioned above, hoping to bring back long-forgotten memories that will have you going 'I remember that!'
  • What Qualifies You To Run This Blog?
I'd like to think that majoring in modern world history and being an English teacher helps somewhat but the advantage of running a blog that is primarily for fun, entertainment and to bring a smile to people's faces is that I don't need an official qualification to do that - I'm not performing brain surgery or flying a plane! I just need to know what I'm talking about - and most of the time I do. Or like to think I do! And the fact that I've lived throughout the eighties and nineties is probably the biggest qualification I'll need to talk about those times.
  • What's With Your Colour Scheme???
Taking a look at a lot of the blogs that are out there, I can see that plain, white backgrounds, clean lines and minimalism are the in-thing. And without meaning to be rude - that's just not for me! Yes, Nostalgia Pie is loud; yes, it's colourful; and yes, it's busy - but for me that just reflects life as I knew it back in 'my era.' The colour scheme I've chosen are shades of avocado green and harvest gold with hints of rust and beige with lots of geometric patterns which is perfect for that sixties/seventies vibe.
  • How Accurate Is The Content Of Each Post?
How accurate is the time on your watch? The truth is we make the best of the information that is presented to us and work with what we have. My background in history has given me the skills to carry out thorough research, analyse and verify sources etc. and even though this blog serves primarily as a trip down memory lane, I still carry out these tasks because the perfectionist in me hates getting things wrong or misleading people. Furthermore, I never make wild claims; if something is 'alleged' or 'supposed,' I will say so. And if something is opinion-based rather than factual, I'll say that too. So to answer the question, the content of each post is as accurate as is humanly possible to the best of my knowledge.
  • How Do I Join The Discussion Forum?
First of all read the Members' Notes and Site Rules pages (Stop grumbling! It's for your own good!) Then you just hit the sign up button which is right under the menu at the top of every page. You can then proceed to sign up using your email or Facebook/Gmail accounts. You then have to wait to be approved by Nostalgia Pie - which hopefully shouldn't take too long. Once you have been approved, you can then create your profile and start posting. Just a heads up - when you create your profile, we strongly recommend you create a username - the more unique, the better! Everything you'll need to know will be written in the Members' Notes.
  • You Ask For Phone Numbers When Subscribing/Posting Comments. Why Is That?
Dont't worry - I won't be phoning you at 2am when my insomnia is really kicking in to discuss the meaning of life. That's what my husband is for! The phone number is purely for verification purposes. Nothing more, nothing less. If we need to contact you, it will be via the email address you provided.
  • What Do You Do With My Info?
For further information regarding how we collect/store/use your information, please read our privacy policy. But simply put we do NOT sell or pass on your information to any third parties. In the event where we do have to pass on your info to someone else - e.g. - if you've won a competition, for legal reasons etc. - this will be made crystal clear.
  • Is It OK To Include My Contact Details In Posts?
The short answer is no. These discussion boards are PUBLIC which means that they can be viewed by members and non-members alike so it's best not to post your personal details there. If you are a member, you could, if you wished to, include an email or link to your website/social media page on your profile page so members can get in touch with you. The members profiles cannot be viewed by the general public but nonetheless you should still exercise caution. Read the forum rules for a full explanation.
  • How Can I Unsubscribe/Delete My Account?
You want to unsubscribe? You want to leave us? Really??? WHY??? OK if you've had your fill of pie and you don't want any more email alerts, you can do that by hitting unsubscribe on emails sent to you by Nostalgia Pie. Failing that, contact us and we will unsubscribe you from our list. If you wish to delete your account, please contact Nostalgia Pie and inform us of your request to cancel your membership and we will (sadly!) do that for you.
  • Can I Become A Guest Contributer?
I'm delighted that you like Nostalgia Pie that much that you'd like to write posts for us... Or maybe it's because you think you can do a better job than me... Hmmm... At present Nostalgia Pie isn't accepting any submissions from guest writers. This is currently a non-profit blog and I don't believe in asking people to work for free. But maybe one day in the future, when we're the biggest, most talked about, most followed, most liked blog on the planet - the Rolling Stones or Queen of blogs (and that's rock band Queen, not HRH) - we might just start looking for writers. Watch this space...
  • Why Can't I leave details of Businesses For Potential Customers?
Nostalgia Pie isn't about buying and selling items. You could always use eBay, Etsy or any number of sites for that. But we don't mind members being helpful towards other members and giving them the names of places where they can buy the much sought-after item they are looking for. But to prevent the messageboards from being flooded with buy and sell ads, measures need to be put in place. Furthermore Nostalgia Pie cannot regulate such suggestions so the buyer is encouraged to do their own research and ensure that they are buying from a genuine business.
  • Um, The Contents For Your Site Rules And Forum Rules Kind Of Look The Same. Do I Still Have To Read Them Both?"
Yes, you do! Admittedly a lot of the content is very similar, but each page does contain info that is peculiar to either the forum rules or site rules pages.
  • Why Do You have to be 18 And Older To Use Nostalgia Pie?
In one word - safety! You don't have to be a minimum age of 18 to read the blog, but in order to become a member and use the forum where you will be interacting with strangers - though hopefully very nice strangers - it's essential that all members who sign up are 18 or older. Anyone who we have reason to believe is younger than 18 will have their account deleted. Sorry - but it's for your own good!
  • I Love The 1940s/50s. Why Don't You Write Posts About Those Decades?
I'm about to - you'll find posts about all things 1920s -1950s on our sister site An Extra Slice which is currently under construction.
