Members’ Notes
Yes, we know it's boring but we'd hate to think all this was typed out for nothing! It's all here in brown and cream, so there's no point crying 'no one told me' and 'I didn't know.' These guidelines are here to ensure that Nostalgia Pie remains a fun, lively and welcoming space for everyone.
What Is Nostalgia Pie?
Nostalgia Pie (NP) is a blog, forum and community of like-minded enthusiasts who come together to share memories, swap notes on nostalgia, and learn something new about the pop culture, entertainment and history that shaped us.
Although you have to be over 18 to become a member and use the forum, there are no age restrictions with regards to simply viewing this site.
What Nostalgia Pie Is NOT
Nostalgia Pie does NOT claim to be a friendship; penpal; dating or matrimonial site. Neither do we claim to be a site for those seeking work; accommodation; business transactions or promoting various social or political agendas. Any comments or posts pertaining to any of the above will be removed and members will receive a warning.
We understand that through this site, bonds may be formed which will extend out into the 'real world' and that's fine - but users do so at their own discretion. Nostalgia Pie takes no responsibility for such activities or their outcomes. Keep it fun; keep it retro, but above all, keep it safe.
And while we are not primarily about selling/swapping items or arranging group activities, the Old Memorabilia Shop message board on our forum and group pages does allow members to create posts linking to their established online stores or Meet-Up group page. However this must be relevant to NP and align with our values or such posts will be removed. See the Old Memorabilia Shop message board and read the Members Notes for more information.
Community Guidelines
1. Be Friendly and Respectful
-
Be welcoming to new members. If you're a new member yourself, you can introduce yourself in the Retro Room message board. It’s a great way to meet fellow members, and we promise you’ll get a warm welcome.
-
Respect others’ opinions, even if they differ from your own. Avoid personal attacks or inflammatory language. Never make people feel stupid or bad. Disagreeing is fine—disrespecting is not. We love a good debate about whether Take That beats NKOTB, but keep it civil.
-
The Nostalgia Pie community has got a pretty good sense of humour but be warned - if you insult someone "jokingly", understand that it might not be interpreted that way.
2. Share and Contribute
-
Got a story, memory, or bit of trivia to share? Don’t hold back! It's likely that someone may find it interesting or useful. Just make sure what you’re posting is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
-
If you’re asking for advice or information, remember to thank those who took the time to respond—even if their answer isn’t exactly what you hoped for.
-
Do not paste entire articles from web sites. Such comments/posts will be deleted. If you wish to reference an article on the web, link to its web address instead.
3. Post with Purpose
-
Keep your comments relevant, meaningful, and on-topic.
-
Use descriptive titles for your threads. Posts with titles such as 'Advice needed; 'Remember This?' or 'I have a question,' might not generate much engagement. 'What’s your favorite eighties movie?' might fare better!
-
Check for existing threads before starting a new one. Use the Search feature to avoid duplicating forum posts.
-
All the forums are categorized by topics. Post in the correct category. Your content may get deleted/moved if not posted in the correct place. If your post fits into more than one message board, choose the most appropriate one.
-
Don’t hijack other people’s topics. If something new comes up within a topic that you would like to discuss, and you want to change the subject, please start a new message thread.
-
Please do not use this site as a vehicle for single-mindedly promoting an agenda - personal or otherwise.
4. Keep It Classy
-
We don’t mind a bit of sass or cheekiness, but offensive, vulgar, or sexually explicit content has no place here. This includes (but is not limited to) offensive comments; gestures; emojis; links; photos; videos, and music.
-
While we accept everyone's language can get a little colourful sometimes, swearing every other word isn’t acceptable.
-
Avatars and profile pictures should be in good taste - no offensive or suggestive images.
No Stirring or Trolling
-
Unfortunately, as with every site, there is the possibility that Nostalgia Pie might attract the attention of internet trolls; sad, attention-seeking, little people who have nothing better to do than to pick fights and bait others. So unless you're making porridge, please don't stir the pot or cause drama - or you’ll be shown the (virtual) door.
-
We don't care who knows the Billy Goats Gruff personally - trolls are not welcomed here. So please don’t feed the trolls. If they need attention that badly, they can go on Love Island or Big Brother.
No Spamming
-
Spamming in any form is strictly prohibited. This includes:
-
Posting the same comment, link, or message repeatedly.
-
Sharing irrelevant or promotional links to external sites, businesses, or services.
-
Flooding the forum or comment sections with unrelated content.
If you'd like to share a link that’s relevant to a discussion or topic, please contact the site admin for approval first. Posts that violate this rule will be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned.
-
6. Privacy Matters
-
We know that discussions can sometimes turn to non-nostalgic topics and that's fine. But remember that there is such a thing as too much information so think before you post.
-
Respect others’ privacy. Do not share sensitive information; personal contact details, and don’t dig into someone’s personal life.
-
Do not use this site to expose the misdemeanors of others.
-
Be mindful when discussing celebrities or public figures - no slander or invasive comments, please.
7. Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech
Nostalgia Pie is a safe and inclusive space for everyone. We do not tolerate:
-
Any kind of 'hateful' material intended to hurt or offend others. Material that is racist, homophobic, sexist, misogynistic, misandrist, Islamaphobic, anti-Semitic, transphobic - in fact ANY kind of -ist, -tic, or -phobic will not be tolerated here.
-
Abuse or threatening behaviour levelled at Nostalgia Pie or its members
-
Harassment, bullying, or abusive language of any kind.
-
Hate speech, inflammatory remarks, or derogatory posts.
Violations of this policy will result in immediate action, including removal of the content and possible banning of the member. We may also report serious incidents to the appropriate authorities. Let’s keep Nostalgia Pie a positive and uplifting community!
A Final Word
We want Nostalgia Pie to be a place where everyone feels welcome, included, valued, and inspired to share their love of nostalgia. By following these guidelines, you’re helping us build a community that’s as treasured as the memories we celebrate.
If you have questions about the rules or need clarification, don’t hesitate to reach out via the Contact Form.
