I came across this article and I so knew a lot of the Nostalgia Pie readers, especially those who grew up and live in the UK, would be interested as they may remember them well.
I'd almost forgotten about a lot of these legendary ads. The Renault Clio commercial, the Flake ads, and anyone who grew up in Britain during the 1980s would remember those OXO commercials very well. Lynda Bellingham became a star but it's a pity that they others didn't get further ahead with the acting, and I'm so sad that the dad from the OXO family passed away last year.
Which TV commercials from your youth do you remember well?
I was a huge New Kids fan. So when the Coke commercial that they did back in the 1990s would be on TV my heart would do the New Kids dance! 😁
I also remember those Chicken Tonight adverts. We all used to sing that song and drive everyone mad! 😂 I wonder if those sauces are still around. 🤔
Just remembered the Bounty ads. They really did make it look as though biting into one of those bars would take you to paradise!
I loved the Nobody Better Lay a Finger on My Butterfinger commercial for Butterfingers. My mom says that as a toddler I was a big fan of the Leggo my Eggo commercial.
I was a big fan of the Timotei ads. You know the shampoo advert where a blonde woman in a white dress is washing her hair out of a barrel in the countryside! I'm blonde but I always wanted to be Timotei blonde! There was a girl in my school who could easily have been in the Timotei girl.
The Pringles commercials. Even now when I go to the grocery store and see tubes of Pringles, I can't get that slogan out of my head! 😁 And also it was the first time, I'd seen chips in a tube.
The man from Del Monte... he say yes! Damn we had some catchphrases back then!
The Viennetta ad where everyone's desperate for the last slice is still something of a classic. I can't remember the exact year but mid-eighties round about then.
Back in the eighties and nineties, the TV commercials were just as entertaining as the TV shows themselves. A lot of the ones mentioned in the article and in the comments have brought back a lot of memories. To this day I still remember the lyrics to the Cadbury's Fudge commercial.
I liked a lot of the adverts for cereals. Don't ask me why. But they had catchy tunes and phrases. The Rice Krispies ads, Coco Pops, Frosties, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, Weetabix, Shredded Wheat, Cornflakes. We could be here all day!
I remember pretty much all of the adverts mentioned in the article. I also liked those PG Tips and Brooke Bond ads for tea. I'm wondering if they were the reasons why so much tea was drunk in our house! 🤔
Those adverts were a huge part of our childhoods and we remember them well. Michael Redfern played the 'Dad' in the OXO TV adverts. I'm sorry that he struggled to find roles after that ad. I think it was the loss of a lot of TV shows as he was a very good actor. May he rest in peace.
I used to love those adverts for Findus Crispy Pancakes. Mainly because they were my favourite food at the time. Now I just think 'goodness, how unhealthy was I!' I used to eat those all the time. I also loved the ads for Gino Ginelli ice-cream - an ice-cream brand which for some reason, didn't last long. Don't know why as it was delicious. the toffee fudge one was my favourite.
The ads for Roses and Quality Street were always quite sweet - no pun intended! And I was also a fan of the Daz doorstep challenge with Shane Richie. In fact when he turned up years later in Albert Square as Alfie, the Daz ads were the first thing that came to mind. Also liked Gary Lineker's Walkers Crisps commercials.
Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that the actor from the OXO ads has passed away. It was only last summer but I don't remember hearing about that. I hope he's resting in peace and cooking a fab shepherd's pie with Lynda ❤️
I remember a lot of those ads that were featured in the article. Let's not forget those Milk Tray ads, Milky Bar Kid, Trio, Club, Um Bongo... Good grief I could go on for days! 😂
