So I was reading that Julia Roberts twins just celebrated their 18th birthday. It seems like only yesterday that Julia Roberts announced on Oprah that she was having twins and now they are legally adults!
I noticed that in alot of the comments of the article, alot of people were making very unkind comments about Julia's past, mainly that her husband and the twins father was a married man when she met him and that it was their affair that led to the end of his marriage. In many of the comments people said that they used to be a big fan of Julia's until her affair and after that they didn't want to watch her movies. This seems a little immature to me. I mean Julia Roberts is a great actress who makes really cool movies. And you don't want to watch her movies because of what she did in her private life? That makes no sense to me. That's like my boss firing me because he doesn't agree with my political beliefs or what football team I support (its the Seahawks btw!) even though I'm doing a good job and always professional at work. That's so unfair.
I know it's not just Julia. there are other celebrities who people stopped caring about because of things that happened that the public don't agree with. Does everyone else think that this is right? And I'm not talking about celebrities who have committed serious crimes like R Kelly or Ian Watkins. I'm talking about famous people who made choices that weren't popular with their fans. The way I see it, as long as they're doing a good job, does it really matter what they do in their private life?
Hmm... I think it depends on what the scandal is to be honest, Chipmunk. In Julia Robert's case I think what has triggered a lot of people is the ruthlessness and insensitivity she showed towards the first wife of her now husband. Let's not forget, he's hardly blameless in all of this either and I don't buy the excuse that Julia stalked him relentlessly. Um, you can still say no. LOL!
But I remember when news broke about their affair, there was a report that Julia had phoned his house and asked his wife in a seemingly jokey way if she could 'borrow' her husband - when she was already sleeping with him. And then of course there was that t-shirt. Talk about kicking people when they're down! While there is no denying that Julia is an incredibly talented actress and has made some fantastic films over the years, all of the above makes her come across as a very unlikable person. I would still go and watch her films, I don't see why I shouldn't. But I do agree with others when they say that she seems mean and spiteful. Even though this happened many years ago, people have long memories and they don't forget so easily.
But that said I don't believe that Julia's career suffered as a result of her being labelled a 'marriage wrecker' and fair play to her and her husband for making their marriage last when everyone said it wouldn't. Plus they've got a beautiful family together so maybe it really is the real deal after all. It's just a shame that the first wife had to get hurt in all this.
