Well after all the anticipation, the jubilee celebrations and the jubilee long weekend are here!!! Unfortunately I couldn't travel down to London and I will sadly be working over the weekend 😣 (though I will more than make up for it during the evenings!) But it was so lovely to watch all the people turn out for Her Majesty, all jubilant and excited. Not to mention the Queen surrounded by three generations of her beautiful family. I know there's a lot of animosity towards Megan and Harry but when all is said and done, I'm so glad that were there. It wouldn't of been right otherwise. And anyway - what family doesn't have their fair share of problems. Of course Prince Philip's absence was very much felt, and no doubt he were on Her majesty's mind all day. There were news reports that she felt a bit poorly afterwards so I hope she's all right now.
Whether you love the Royals like I do or not, no one can deny that this is a truly historical occasion and one that we are very lucky to have lived through, seeing our country's longest reining monarch. No other king or queen has ever celebrated a platinum jubilee and I honestly thought no one would ever beat Queen Victoria's reign - and then her great-great granddaughter did. I'm just sorry I weren't in London to really see history in the making.
Very, very proud to be British! 👑
As the Queen is no longer with us, I'm so glad that she reached this momentous milestone. It's just sad to think that as we were all celebrating her seventy year reign, none of us knew what was around the corner... 😥
We don't have royalty in America as everyone knows but many people here have always been very fascinated by the British royal family. I didn't really watch much about the Queen's celebrations but I think it's pretty neat that she's spent so long as queen.
I'm neither for nor against the monarchy but we can't dispute that the Platinum Jubilee really was a momentous =occasion for the queen. I agree with everyone who has pointed out that she has been through a heck of a lot in recent years with the death of her husband being the most heartbreaking for her. So she deserves a reason to be surrounded by her family and have something special to celebrate. And I'm so glad that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were there. At a time like that differences need to be put aside and everyone needs to focus on what matters.
After all that anticipation for the four day weekend, it's come and gone! But It was a fantastic celebration. Round our way people were having street parties, schools were having fetes and fairs and all kinds. It's so nice to be celebrating something good for a change. Especially as we had a really rotten start to the decade. I'm with everyone who thinks that Queen Elizabeth has done her duty well all these years - so why shouldn't she celebrate her platinum jubilee? Especially as she's the first British monarch ever to do so.
And I loved the concert. As a big pop fan I wish I could of been there.
It had been a glorious long weekend. I didn't go into London or anything like that but I did catch up with some of the ceremonial and celebratory things on TV. And I spent the long weekend doing family activities with my husband and our two little ones. Other than duty to her country, The Queen is all about family and it's so good that we were given this time to spend some much needed quality family time with ours.
I have to say it but I'm not someone who goes crazy over the royal family even though I'm British. And while I get why the queen's jubilee was celebrated and that she's made history, I think that with Britain in the turmoil that it's in, I think it was quite insensitive to have this massive celebration. The cost of living in the UK is out of control. There are families who can barely afford to eat over there, there are old people who have to choose between heating or eating, and there's homeless people sleeping on the streets not too far from Buckingham Palace. For all of these reasons I think they could have toned things down a bit.
As I now live outside of the UK, I definitely missed out on all that celebratory spirit but I caught up with whatever I could and it seems as though a good time was had by all. I would have loved to have been there for the Jubilee Concert especially as my idols Duran Duran were there.
The Queen has had a tough time of late but still she keeps soldiering on. I don't know if I could do as well as her had I been in her shoes. I've only ever known one monarch my whole life and it's good to think that I'm living in the time of the longest reigning British monarch. No other monarch has ever reigned for seventy years and I don't think that that's likely to happen again for a very long time - if ever!
A very happy jubilee weekend to everyone celebrating in Britain! 👑
Whether you're a huge fan of the royals or not, no one can deny that seventy years of service is a huge achievement. Everyone says that the royals have it easy, and while I agree that they'll never having to worry about paying bills, finding work, losing their homes or how they're going to feed their kids, the fact that the spotlight is always on them and their always open to criticism is tough. You'd need to have an incredibly thick skin to be a member of that family. And no matter what has gone in in her family, the Queen has just got on with the job she was born to do.
I'm not much of a royalist but I'm not anti-royal either. I think yesterday was a very proud day Britain. The Queen has been through a lot in her seventy years on the throne and she's to be commended for the work that she has done, especially in the face of so much opposition and sometimes unwanted publicity.
I saw a lot of photos and footage yesterday as people lined the streets, cheering the Queen and enjoying themselves. It was just nice to see people happy for a change and having a reason to celebrate. There's been too much gloom and doom the world over lately.
