The 2022 Logies Awards ceremony was held a few days ago in Australia. It's not really something that makes the news over in the UK but we have heard the disgruntled mutterings regarding the tribute for Neighbours that was put on during the ceremony. And some of these complaints came from certain members of the Neighbours cast. Ryan Maloney who plays Toadie even went on radio and didn't hold back. I do agree that shoving the Neighbours cast at the back of the room where they couldn't be seen or see the stage was not particularly nice. But I don't think the tribute itself was necessarily awful.
Or have I missed something?
I didn’t watch this as I watch very little current TV, and I don’t think I’ve watched the Logies for at least 15 years, so at the risk of not seeing it, I don’t think serials/soapies are ever really held in high regard or high esteem by certain sections of the media, when you read some of the garbage they have written over the years, regardless of how long-running and popular they may have been. And this applies to the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. Neighbours would be no exception. It could have ran for 100 years, and it would make no difference, regardless of how many people it brought enjoyment to.
Forget the tribute, what I want to know is what the hell was Izzy wearing on stage! It was hideous. Whoever in the wardrobe department decided on that is the one who needs to be axed! 😂
Well it appears that Jackie Woodburn and Stefan Dennis have also waded into the row about the Logies. It would seem that people really aren't pleased about the treatment they received or the tribute.
I wouldn't say that it was a disaster, but I think we all expected a bit more. For a start, getting the actors who played Joel Samuels and Izzy Hoyland up on stage was a bit of an odd choice, even though Izzy is without a doubt an iconic Neighbours character, but I think that there are more obvious choices and more deserving actors who could have gone up there to say some very meaningful words, and I think that this is what Ryan was trying to get at. If it had been up to me, I would have gone for actors from the soap's hey day but then you'd have to remember that many of the current viewers who weren't even born then probably wouldn't know who they were which was something Daniel joked about - and quite amusing that was too!
I saw some of the cast sat at their tables looking very stony faced! I know that the actor who plays Aaron also had a grumble. I think there's a lot more going on here than we're led to believe. It seems unbelievable that someone would have a hissy over a soap tribute.
I also don't think it was the worst but it wasn't the best either. I've checked out the tribute they did at the British Soap Awards and that was so much better. But I'm still quite surprised by what Ryan Molone (Toadie) said in the radio interview. He sounded a bit miffed that the long time members of the cast (he being one of them) were not asked to go up on stage and say a few words. I do think that Daniel McPherson was an odd choice but I think Ryan came over a bit diva with his comments. These actors and their limelight eh!
It probably wasn't the worst tribute in the world but I do agree that it could have been better. It looks like it was very hastily put together at the last minute.
Think it's a case of complaining for the hell of it. I thought it was a good tribute and they brought actors on to the stage who in their time were quite iconic so I don't see what the issue is.
After hearing about complaints I watched a clip of the tribute. I didn't think there was anything wrong with it myself. I think it was short and sweet and nowt wrong with that. Sounds like Toadie had a case of sour grapes. Plus the two actors on stage played iconic characters and he made out like they were extras or something!
But it's true it wasn't nice that they stuck somewhere out of the way where they felt they missed out on the proceedings. Whoever was in charge of event planning didn't do a very good job. I wouldn't like to be at an event where I couldn't see anything that was going on either.
