We all know that the 80s and 90s were the decades that brought us the super model. VS models are cool and all but none come close to the supers of back then!
I loved fashion. I still do. So it won't come as a surprise to know that during my teen years I used to buy just about every fashion magazine out there - especially if there was a super on the cover. And if you bought fashion magazines back in the day, you'll know that they weren't cheap!
So what I want to know is, who were your favorite super models? For me it was Bridget Hall because she had that sporty vibe but still looked quite girly - a bit like me (though she was definitely more glam!) I was also a fan of Nadja Auermann. Being so short, I used to dream about having legs as long as hers!
Tatjana Patitz passed away just a couple of weeks ago. I always thought she was very beautiful and a legend in the modeling world. May she rest in peace.
I think it'd be easier for me to tell you who WEREN'T my fave supermodels. The answer - ones I hadn't heard of! But I have to say that Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer really floated my boat!
Tyra Banks without a doubt. She still looks amazing and hasn't aged a bit since the 1990s.
Miranda Kerr. I think she's stunning.
Linda Evangelista. There was something so unique about her look and every time I think about her I immediately think about that supermodel and fashion era. It's so sad that botched up work have had an impact on her looks that's caused her to feel so low. It's all very well saying that you should grow old gracefully but Linda belongs to a different world where looks matter and her face and body have been her bread and butter.
Miranda Kerr. She has such a striking look and is still working hard today!
When the 'supermodel' era was at its height, I was just a little kid so not really a fashion follower or anything. For my generation it was probably someone like Giselle.
I was very interested in fashion and I was an avid buyer of fashion magazines myself. I still have many of them. One of my faves was Yasmin Le Bon who I think is a true natural beauty. All these years later she hasn't aged at all and is still stunning.
Monica Bellucci, Daniela Pestova, Leticia Casta... They had very strong, striking and unique looks plus they had that certain charm and quality about them that I feel a lot of the other models didn't have as beautiful as they were.
Christy Turlington. She had the most beautiful bone structure. I would love to have looked like her. And I thought Angie Everhart had the most fabulous hair. I remember she once said in an interview that her hair was her best feature as not many girls had had such a vibrant shade of red that was all natural and I agree.
I wasn't really much of a follower of fashion but I thought Kate Moss and Sophie Anderton were very beautiful. They had that lovely, fresh-faced girl next door look but also rocked the glamourpuss look wonderfully well.
Ooh, great question Tiny! I was a huge fan of the supers growing up in the nineties. And I was already a magazine fanatic so to buy a mag with a super on the cover was a bonus. I didn't really buy the mags that all fashionistas were buying - Vogue, Cosmo etc. - but I did buy Looks and Top Model.
OK, my fave supermodels... Well I liked admired each and every one of them but I think my faves were the Taylor sisters, Karen Mulder and Laetitia Casta. And btw, this short girl also used to dream about having legs like Nadja's! I'm sure the length of her legs was my entire height! 😂
But you're right. It wasn't just their beauty but the nineties supermodels had a star quality that I don't see in today's models - although I'm sure they're great at what they do.
