Did any of you have a perfume or aftershave that you loved wearing during your teen years/young adult days? For me it was Exclamation! like it was for a lot of teenage girls. I don't think there were many girls in my class who didn't wear that. It wasn't very expensive an easy to get hold of so that might explain why it was the choice of many young girls back then. I remember hearing that it had notes of some kind of fruit. Blackberry I think, but I didn't really detect any fruit at all! But that said it was dead nice and does remind me of growing up in the 1990s.
Which scent did you swear by?
I love perfume! Always have. Right now I'm wearing Good Girl by Carolina Herrera. It was the packaging that enticed me but the scent that kept me coming back. As a young, celebrity-obsessed teenager, I have to say I would be tripping over myself to get the latest celebrity perfume or any perfume with one of my favorite celebrities fronting the campaign. So I've worn CK1, Charlie, Glow, and Curious. Now I wear what I think is good and not because it's connected to a celebrity.
I wouldn't say that I had a particular scent. I think I was a typical young woman who tried all the latest gotta-have trends. But fragrances like Ralph Lauren's Polo, Calvin Klein's Eternity or Tommy Hilfiger's Tommy Girl, those take me back to me teen years and early adulthood.
Weren't we all crazy about The Body Shop! I did wear more than a few fragrances from their range but to be honest I didn't really stick with just one perfume. I had a whole variety and I enjoyed trying them out to see what I liked. For a teenage girl, I felt very grown up wearing some of these well known fragrances... even the ones we could get off the shelves at Boots and Superdrug like Charlie, Exclamation, and So. Oh, and while this wasn't a perfume, we were all mad about Impulse. I went to a girl's school and after PE it wasn't uncommon for us all to whip out our Impulse body sprays to compare the scents.
Funnily enough I don't really wear much perfume these days.
For everyday wear it would be something like Charlie or Exclamation. But for more special occasions, I was very fond of my Obsession!
I used to wear the one my J-Lo. I would have been in my early teens then and I felt so grown up to be wearing proper grown up perfume by a style icon. And it wasn't some cheap pound shop stuff like some of the kids used to wear. Like a lot of you here, I was also taken by the bottle which if some of you might remember was meant to resemble J-Lo's physique.
I got into make-up, perfumes and that during the eighties when I was a teenager. But rather than buy my own, which I didn't do until much later, I just borrowed my mum's. The two she used to wear a lot were Panache and Tweed. Whenever anyone talks about them, it takes me back to them days.
Another Anais Anais fan here! A lot of women wore that fragrance at the time. It was very popular and it's easy to see why as it smelled gorgeous. I think I may have started out with some Body Shop fragrances like a lot of teen girls do but can't remember which ones. An assortment I reckon. L'air Du Temps is another one I loved. And the bottle was gorgeous.
I grew up with a mum who was perfume mad so what didn't we have in our house! Whenever we were going out for the night, I'd just have a quick spritz of whatever I could grab first - they were all nice. But the one I quite liked and still reminds me of the nineties, especially the mid-nineties, was Anais Anais (even though I know it's been around since the seventies!) It was very popular during the nineties and I know some even thought that Meg Gallagher had got inspiration from the perfume for her daughter's name (she was actually named after one of her mum's favourite authors)
Anais Anais has a lovely light, fresh floral smell but not like anything your nan would wear! I know it's still available even though I haven't worn it in years.
I was given a bottle of Angel for my fifteenth birthday after bugging my mom for so long. I loved the star shaped bottle and also I believed that it had a chocolatey fragrance. Well I still have it but I have to admit I hardly ever wore it - I didn't like the scent and I didn't think it was anything like chocolate! But that perfume still reminds me of my teen years and the early 2000s.
But what I wore more often was usually something by Body Shop. Either White Musk or vanilla. I liked to mix it up a little! 😀
I grew up with a mum who was a bit of a glamourpuss so during the eighties, she had every kind of perfume you could imagine on her dressing table (yes, it was a big dressing table!) But for me, the first perfume I ever wore was So... which I think was by Yardley. I started wearing it when I was sixteen and it was always my scent of choice.
It was a very inexpensive perfume that you could get from Boots or Superdrug, but it did not smell cheap at all (or I would not have worn it!) Quite the opposite in fact. If I had to describe the scent, and I'll probably do a rubbish job of describing it, I'd say it was a very sophisticated floral with maybe some citrus and a bit of a spicy kick. I will say however, that it wasn't a subtle scent so very little was needed. Unfortunately no one ever told me that, and I now realise that the fragrance probably entered a room two hours before I did!
It was usually the perfume and the body spray that I used to wear but I often got the Christmas gift set which included a shower gel and body lotion. So I'd get all So...ed up! There were many variations of So... that were brought out over the years, and while I liked them all, the classic So.. in the red and black packaging was always my fave.
I haven't worn So... since moving to America and I'd love to try it again when I get back. I just hope that like many in things in life, it hasn't changed. It always brings back memories of the nineties and my teen and early adult years.
Goodness, who knew I could twitter on so much about a perfume!!!
