Hi Everyone. Or should I say g'day!
I don't know why it's taken me so long to find this site, but now that I have I'm glad to be here. I'm 42, from London, born into an Irish family, and when I was in my early twenties, I upped sticks and moved all the way to Sydney Australia. That along with meeting my husband and having our boys was the best thing I ever did.
I don't really miss London but I do have great memories of growing up in North London in the eighties and being what I'm sure many people would perceive a typical teenage girl in the nineties - end of term dances, Saturdays spent with my mates down at the arcades, getting up to mischief at school, posters on my bedroom wall, giggles with the girls at the stuff we used to read in the magazines... tell me, do teenage girls still do any of the above?
Nice to meet you all 😎
Let's hear it for my girl!
Hi Donnabella! I've visited London and it's a great city. Hope you're loving life in Australia - a place I still have to cross off my bucket list! :)
And here I am - another Brit girl who's left British shores and British climes for a new life abroad. In the States that is. Good to meet you, Donna. 😃
Welcome to our little community, Donnabella 💜
Thank you, Judy! It's nice to know there's another Brit lady living out here. I did spend some time up north and definitely preferred it to London. And while I might of stayed there, I'm glad I made the move down under.
It's awesome to meet another brit-living-in-oz! Like you I also moved to Australia in my twenties (41 now!) I'm from Manchester but lived in London for a bit before finding my way to Australia and eventually settling there with my partner and our two little ones Like you, I don't really miss London but of course I miss Manchester. But I'm absolutely loving life here and it's home for my kids.
So glad I've found this group 😀
It's great to meet you too Donnabella. You just described my teen years. They were bliss, weren't they! 😀
Wow! That was a really lovely introduction - thanks DonnaBella! It's nice to know you're enjoying life down under. I'm also a Londoner who upped sticks and moved away but a lot more recently than you. I live in America and hopefully it will feel more like home one day (it's been four years!)
It's funny you should say that because I was on the phone to my aunt yesterday and we were discussing our teenage years - which despite us being of different generations was remarkably similar - but we both came to the conclusion that most teenagers today aren't into the same sort of things that were into. I suppose it's only to be expected as times do change. But I am incredibly grateful for being a teenager during the nineties!
Lovely to meet you Donnabella. I've been lucky enough to visit Australia a couple of times and would love to take my children out there. It's such a fantastic place so you're very lucky to live there.
Do teenagers still do the above? Well as my daughter is fast approaching her teen years, I shall soon find out!
