I been on this forum for a while now so why did I never think to introduce myself properly to all you lovely people?
Anyways, my name's Judy, I'm on the wrong side of forty but nowt I can do about that (I've been told I don't look it so if that's true then that's a good thing!) I'm originally from Manchester in England but now live in Australia with my partner and our two kids. So everyone in our household is an Aussie except for me. Even the dog! 😂
I was born in 1979 and being born right at the end of the seventies is weird because you're not really considered a child of the seventies (as you don't have any memories of the decade) and you aren't considered an eighties child either as that title seems to be reserved for those who were actually born in that decade. So what the heck am I???
I left Manchester in the late nineties to go to uni and then spent a few years in London before coming out here in my late twenties and I been here ever since.
If I had to pick one decade that I lived through that I thought were the best, that'd be dead hard. I love all those decades for different reasons. But I will give a shout out to the noughties (mainly because no-one else has!) as it were a very exciting time for me in my adult life. I'd finished uni, moved to London, started work, met a group of mates who are more like family and who I'm still in touch with, and then towards the end of the noughties I moved out here to Australia. It wasn't an easy decision to make but it turned out to be the best. I wouldn't have my lovely little family and my sun-soaked life if I didn't come out here.
And that's all folks!
OMGOMGOMG!!! What is it with this site??? 😁You're like the third person from Australia that I've found in about ten minutes!!! And the second British girl living out in Australia. I guess this site has quite an impact with Aussies huh?😀 But that's great. We can all share nostalgic memories about growing up in our respective countries! 😊
Hiya Judy! Nice to know life is treating you well in sunny Oz. Well I tell you what, I'm a seventies kid myself but while you came along right at the end, I was born towards the beginning! It does make me an old dear but I'm glad I have some memories of the 1970s as it were a great decade.
And I'll tell you something else as well, I'm from Manchester too! 😃
Hello Judy from another lady who's also on the wrong side of forty! Us wrong side of forty girls need to stick together! 😁 There's nothing wrong with being a dual-decade baby. In fact you're rather quite lucky. And boy do I envy your sun soaked life. I work outdoors a lot and as much as I enjoy my job, I'd much rather do it in the sunshine!
I loved the 'even the dog' bit! LOL! Well I'm very pleased you've introduced yourself here because I'm a bit of a latecomer to the group. I joined a couple of months ago maybe. I don't get on here often so I'm still working my way around this site and coming across some lovely people. I'm also a Brit girl who upped sticks and headed over the Atlantic for a new life. I've only been here two years so I'm fairly new to the whole expat game unlike yourself. And like you, I feel that this move is one of the best things I ever did.
Angel's right. It's grate when we get to learn more about the members on this sight. I know you've been on here for a while JudyB but hey, welcome! Woo hoo!
I was born in 81 so I just turned forty. And for me also, I loved the noughties and have grate memories of that time. It was also during that decade that I met my husband who I have been marryed to for eight years now.
Well hello Judy and thank you for getting around to introducing yourself to the rest of us here. We always like to know something about our members.
I'm a Brit expat (from London) myself but I live in the US. In fact it was moving out here that gave me the idea to start this site as I had a yearning for all things British... which led to a yearning for all things from my childhood and teen years. Hopefully after all those years of living in Australia, you feel very at home there now.
I think that being born on the cusp of the 70s and 80s means that you have a foot in both decades (like me!) so I would embrace both and declare myself as a 70s baby and an eighties child. Works for me! And while everyone who knows me knows that I'm an eighties fanatic, the noughties do indeed hold special memories for me too. In fact I'd go as far as to say that I think the noughties were the last good decade. It all went a bit downhill after that but... mustn't grumble!
