I started watching Dallas again. It was something I used to watch with my mom and until I started watching Dallas again, I forgot how much I enjoyed it. I'm now coming to the end of the show and I'm at the bit where April Ewing was shot dead on her honeymoon. When it was first shown, we were all shocked and upset for Bobby. But now I just think it was a real weird way to write April out of the show. I mean Bobby had already lost one wife in tragic circumstances, and now he's lost another in tragic circumstances again and just five minutes after his wedding! Why have them get married at all if all the writers were going to do was kill of April? Couldn't the writers just give Bobby a break?
Did anyone else think that was weird? And before anybody says so, yes, I know it's not real life! I'm just wondering why the writers went in the direction that they did.
I've also been meaning to watch Dallas again. I've actually just finished binge watching the third season of the TNT reboot. I'd also like to watch Dynasty again. And Knots Landing. And Falcon Crest. Everything! Haha!
It was well known at the time that Sheree J. Wilson who played April was pregnant and not only did she ask to leave but she asked to be killed off as she wanted April to have a memorable exit. She knew that the soap was ending and so wasn't worried about returning later on down the line. Sheree has admitted that she regretted that decision as at the time, she didn't realise that there were going to be TV movies and of course the TNT reboot, so she could well have reprised the role of April.
As a die-hard Bobby and Pam fan, I really hated Bobby and April's relationship (yes, I know hate is a strong word!) I was never an April fan although I admit, towards the end she did soften a lot and seemed a much nicer person. When it came to Bobby she absolutely reeked of desperation which seemed very off-putting so goodness knows how Bobby dealt with it! I wasn't a Jenna fan either but I think it would have been better if Bobby had married her rather than April as Bobby and April had absolutely no chemistry at all. And I agree, why have Bobby and April married if their marriage wasn't going to last the month? It wasn't nice to see Bobby put through the wringer a second time. I may not have liked April but the scene where Bobby was cradling April's lifeless body was so heartbreaking. Poor Bobby.
And another thing _ I really couldn't stand April's perpetual smirk. Whatever was happening with her, she always had this really ridiculous smirk on her face. It was her one facial expression.
I'm with you Jodi. I don't really get why they went to all that trouble of getting Bobby remarried only to have his new wife killed in Paris on honeymoon. I did watch it when it first aired but I don't really remember the story behind it. April got kidnapped and were held hostage by some gang and it had something to do with politics I think.
To be honest, I'm just amazed it took them that long to get rid of April. She always seemed like a pointless character to me and added nothing to the show. I were glad when they got shot of her (no pun intended!)
Wasn't she fired? Something to do with her political beliefs or something. Perhaps that's why April was killed off.
I know the actress asked to leave. She wasn't axed or anything. Though why they chose to kill her off, I don't know. She'd been in it for ages. They didn't even do that to Pam and I think they should have. They way she just slunk off out of the hospital after her accident never rung true to me. It would have been more realistic if she'd perished in the accident as sad as that would have been.
