So the day I was born Elvis Presley's Way Down was the British Number Hit at the time. And he stayed number one with this song for five weeks. I discovered this when talking to my mum about Top Forty hits and how today, I don't know what's in the Top Forty! To be honest, I didn't even think I knew this Elvis song but after playing it I realise that I have heard it before. Many times in fact.
What was Number one in your country of birth the day you were born?
Haha! This is the song that my mum wanted my husband and I to have our first dance to. It's a sweet song but it wasn't for us! 😁 But how nice to have Endless Love as the number one song when you were born.
I never thought about who was number one in the charts when I was born. A quick search reveals it was Brian and Michael who I've never heard of with a song called Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs! 😮I'd never heard of this song before but when I played it I expected it to sound familiar - but it doesn't! So there you have it, that's my number one from April 1978. It was then knocked off the top spot by Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive. Now that's one that everybody knows!
A Little Time by The Beautiful South. I was born in October 1990 and I've always thought that that was such a beautiful song. Briana Corrigan has amazing vocals.
It really is such a beautiful song. The Beautiful South were very talented. I know some of the band were originally in The Housemartins and they were good in all!
Mine were Amazing Grace by Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. I actually had to look this up because I never knew what were top of the charts when I were born. And while I know the song of course, I weren't familiar with this version so had to have a little listen!
I was born on Christmas Day in 1977 when the Christmas number one, not just any old number one, 😃 was Mull of Kintyre by Wings. It's a great, well known song. Everyone's heard of it and it's a real favourite with a lot of people in my family - and not just because it was number one when I was born! 🎂
Great question, Madame Bo! You know until I read this post I realized that I didn't actually know what was number one in the charts the day I made my grand entrance into the world (I like to think I've been making a grand entrance ever since!) I remember my aunts telling me that they used sing When Will I See You Again? by the Three Degrees in order to get me to sleep, so I always associated that song with me being a tiny baby. But it wasn't the number one hit single in Britain when I was born - instead it was You're The One That I Want by Olivia Newton John and John Travolta. One of the most well-known and much loved songs in the world ever... still to this day!
John Denver's Annie's Song. It is a beautiful song there's no doubt about that and a real classic. So I'm glad that that's the song that was number in Britain when I entered the world. But the next Number one, Sad Sweet Dreamer by Sweet Sensation was definitely more me - as was the American number when when I was born, Billy Preston's Nothing From Nothing. Yes I was born in 1974!
Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie Endless Love. My dad went out and bought the record to keep as a momento of my birth. LOL.
I had La Bamba by Los Lobos. Pretty cool song!
Mine was Whitney Houston's The Greatest Love of All. Very fitting for my mom as giving birth to me made her a first time mom!

Four Seasons Oh What A Night. Quite appropriate for me I think! 😉

I'm a 1978 baby and the song that was at the top of the charts when I was born was Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights. A real classic!
