I just wanted to know if there's anyone on here who was, and probably still is, massively into the urban flavours of the 1990s. Back in the day it was pretty much the only thing that my friends and I would listen to. Rap, hip hop, swingbeat, RnB. And to get American import stuff was a VERY big deal. While a lot of the artists we listened to were American, during the late nineties, a lot of British artists started doing well in the mainstream charts. People like Eternal, Damage, The Honeyz, All saints etc. Those sounds were really blowing up back then.
If you've been following the news, you'll know that in more recent times a lot of the artists that were big names in the hip hop and rnb arenas have been involved in scandalous behaviours. R Kelly, P Diddy, Fat Joe etc. I think that's why a lot of people are a bit reluctant to listen to such tunes because now it's like there's a stigma attached which is a shame.
So did you listen to urban music back in the day? And do you still play dem old school tunes?
I'd say that I was probably more into Britpop and House and stuff like that. But yeah, I liked a lot of rap and hiphop too from my teen years. I still listen to a bit. A lot of the people I used to hang around with were into that type of music, and it were always played in the clubs and that, so yeah I liked it. A shame about P Diddy though. Everyone was a fan back then. Who would of known!
