Anybody out there know which was the earliest crime appeal program shown in the UK? The one I remember was Police 5 presented by Shaw Taylor and show on Sunday afternoons on ITV in the early 1980s. Then of course came Crimewatch UK.

I do remember Police Five and the lovely Shaw Taylor. I just don't remember when it stopped being shown on ITV! It would be good to know how many cases were solved after being featured on Police Five.
I do remember it but not completely so I think I didn't watch very much of Police 5 even though I know it was on during the day. I think Crimewatch came along and just took over everything crime related.
From what I understand, Police 5 began ten years before I were even born in 1962. Before that I don't think there were any reconstruction shows to solve crimes. Not to my knowledge anyway. Apparently Police 5 were brought back for Channel 5 in 2014 for a certain amount of time but I never saw any of those appeals.
I have very vague memories of Police 5. I don't remember any of the actual cases that were featured. But I do remember Shaw Taylor presenting it, and the blue flashing lights in the intro. I have no idea if Shaw Taylor presented anything else as I only ever remembered him as the presenter of Police 5 and that's what I've always associated him with.
I remember Police 5 too! And the lovely Shaw Taylor. Though whether that was the earliest crime reconstruction show or not I don't know for sure. But that was definitely the first one I remember. I don't really recall them cancelling the show. I think the arrival of Crimewatch might have had something to do with it.
