I'm going to keep this short and sweet, a lot like myself! I've just heard that they're going to remake Fawlty Towers. John Cleese is apparently writing it right now, and it's going to star his real-life daughter.
Fawlty Towers is a classic. I remember watching it for the first time when I was tiny. There were only ever 12 episodes made and they've been repeated to death but you can't help but howl every time you watch an episode.
I've got mixed feelings about the return of Fawlty Towers. I don't think it can ever be the same but at the same time I am curious to see it.
Will you be watching the 21st century version of Fawlty Towers?
I haven't heard anything since with what's happening with the new remake, so don't know if it's going ahead or not. Fawlty Towers is a comedy gem. I don't know anyone who doesn't find it funny. The remake has a lot to live up to.
Whether it's good or bad, we'll all be watching it. And then no doubt take to social media in order to slate it!
At the end of the day, this reboot is going to be written by John Cleese. So you never know, it might be better than you think. I know a lot of people are going to be disappointed that there won't be Sybil, Polly or Manuel, and none of the regular guests will be there either. But then it would be a bit unrealistic if all those people were still there. How many hotels do you know that keep the same staff fifty years later? Not to mention the guests!
Nah man, just leave it. We all know it's not going to work. We all loved Fawlty Towers but this new show will just be a disappointment. I'm sorry but you all know it's true.
Fawlty Towers was a firm favourite in our household. Even now my parents watch it. My kids like it too, which shows that even though in many ways it is quite dated, the humour is still there all these years later.
I'm doubtful that an updated version will work but of course like the rest of you, I will be watching!
I'm of the same mind as a lot of you here in that it's not going to be as good. No way! But after saying that I will be watching to see what it's all about. And somehow I don't think I'll be pleasantly surprised in the slightest!
Fawlty Towers first aired long before I was born but I am very familiar with it because it was a real favourite among my family so I grew up watching it. Despite it being produced in a different time when the humour was quite different, I found it hilarious! Even now it doesn't fail to make me laugh. I've introduced my American husband to it as he'd never even heard of it, and even he found it funny. Personally I would choose to leave it alone as we know it can't beat the old version. But it's going to be made so I will definitely be watching. And so what if it's rubbish? We can just go back to watching what we know and love!
Let's be honest we all loved Fawlty Towers. The show's a classic. I don't think there's ever been such a short lived sitcom in British history that has gained the level of popularity that Fawlty Towers has done. We must have watched all twelve episodes umpteen times but every time you watch each episode, it's always like the first time. Even though we know the bloomin' script by heart! 😂 I were three year old when Fawlty Towers began so I've grown up with it. Whether we approve or not, I reckon we'll all be watching the newer version. I try to keep an open mind but something is telling me that while it might be quite good, it won't be up there with the original.
When I heard the news, I thought 'Oh for goodness sake, what are they doing?' And while I still don't think it'll be a patch on the original like many of you think, I don't see what harm it can do to create this remake. It won't be tarnishing any of the great memories we have, that's for sure. And who knows, the new series might be better than we think it'll be. We can only wait and see.
Hmm - It might be interesting to see how Basil has got along all these years after we last saw him. I think we all know that the reboot won't be a patch on the Fawlty Towers we knew and loved, and we're not expecting it to be even though it's going to be written by John Cleese. How can it be - that was a different time. But out of sheer curiosity, I think we'll all be watching.
No, not a good idea, they’re about 30 to 40 years too late, but I guess it’s a “free country” and all that stuff, so they can do it if they like.
Regardless of the form that a re-do of Fawlty Towers would take, it will, needless to say, undoubtedly receive a lot of attention, from viewers and critics, as it has already.
In the end, regardless of what it would be like, it won’t affect the original in any way.
Oh please don't! Just let it live on in the hearts and minds of people as the beautiful memory that it is.
Please tell me it's not true! 😣 I loved Fawlty Towers and even after all this time it's still something you can watch and get a lot of laughs from. The idea of remaking Fawlty Towers might seem like a good idea but the show was a one off and a reboot of it just won't work.
