I've been busy researching Live Aid for some of our posts - and I have had an absolute whale of a time watching the event and rediscovering all those artists and tunes that we used to listen to.
And more than that I've been asking other people to share their own memories of Live Aid - whether they were actually lucky enough to be there or watching it on the telly like the rest of us. And I've loved listening to their stories which are told with a real sense of enthusiasm and nostalgia, not just about the event but also about how life and times were back then. It's made me want to climb into the nearest time machine and head back to the eighties - if only I could find one!
So it'd be interesting to hear more of your Live Aid stories and memories? Did you actually go to the gigs at Wembley or Philadelphia? Did you watch the entire event? And who were your favourite performers? Perhaps Live Aid reminds you of other cool things you had going on in your life at the time.
We'd love to hear from you!
I'd just hit my teenage years and was music obsessed like every other teenager! Everyone at home had their favourites and for me, I couldn't wait to see George Michael, Madonna, Spandau Ballet, Dire Straits, and Paul Young. Oh and I had the biggest crush on Simon Le Bon but after Duran Duran's performance of A View to a Kill, I got teased mercylessly by my family! 😂 Which I can laugh about now but it wasn't so funny at the time. But at least I fared better than my dad.
He's a Led Zeppelin fan!
It was all pretty spectacular indeed! I'm so glad we got to experience Live Aid and that time in particular... even if most of us were too little to remember everything completely!
Live Aid was great! I still remember the buzz surrounding the event. There are some acts that I remember very well performing on the day, and then there are others where my memory is a bit hazy. There was no way I could sit there for their entire day and watch the whole event. I'd have been too bored as I'm one of those people who always has to be active and doing something. But I did dip in and out throughout the day and what I saw was pretty spectacular.
Haha! That's a lovely story. I really enjoy hearing people's LIve Aid stories. I wonder what your teachers said when you suggested the idea for the new fundraiser! 😂🤣😂
My parents were divorced by then so my Dad got to have me over every weekend. Unfortunately Dad - who had been working that morning _ arrived after midday to collect me when Live Aid had already started. And I refused to budge! No way was I missing a second of Live Aid - I needed to watch everything so that I could talk about it with my friends! I suppose I had FOMO even back then! Haha!
I love my music, always have, and I had a great time watching all the acts. If I had to pick a favourite that would be really hard. But I was a big fan of Madonna, Sade and Spandau Ballet. Wham were there too who I really liked (even though they didn't perform as Wham) I still remember all the buzz surrounding the event. I knew it was all for charity and I thought it was a really cool way to raise money. So when we were having a fundraiser at school I suggested something similar instead of the usual jumble sale! 😂
Oh - and I went over to my Dad's on the Sunday!
I wasn't even born then! It was less than a year after Live Aid when I was born but of course over the years I have heard people talking about it. Alot of people may find this strange, especially for someone who was born in the eighties, but mainstream pop music has never really been something I was into. For me it's all about the significance of the event, like what it stood for and what it achieved rather than the pop acts up on the stage.
I was almost five and I think the only person I really knew was Madonna as she was my favorite pop singer. I don't really remember much about the actual event but I know that my parents and me went to the naybor's house to watch it and have a barbeque. But it was way too long for a four year old and I got board so my mom had to take me home while my dad stayed to watch Live Aid. As I got much older I did get to see many of the performances. I'd say my favorite was Tom Petty.
Live Aid happened before I was born but I got watch videos of it later. Alot of my family who watched it said it was the first concert of it's kind and a phenomenon in so many ways. I watched Madonna's performance when I was very young which I thought was cool because I LOVED Madonna so I got very excited when I saw her on TV. Oh my dad is a huge Bryan Adams fan and I may have had a teeny little crush on him!
I was only a couple of months old when Live Aid was on so unsurprisingly no memories. But I've heard my family and friends who were around at the time talk about it and they all seem to have thourughly enjoyed it.
