A fairly new member here. I have known about this website for a while but didn’t get around to joining until recently.
I’m 60, have lived in Sydney, Australia, for all but three years of my life (1995-1998) when I lived and worked in a nice quiet rural town, where I should have stayed, but that’s another story. My ‘nostalgic’ years are roughly the 30 years that span 1965 to 1995, particularly the 70s and 80s, so this site is right up my alley. To be honest, I was really too young at the time to appreciate most of the 60s, and getting on in years a bit to care too much for popular culture beyond the mid-90s.
The 1970s was really my blue-ribbon decade, where I aged from 9 to 19. The 1980s slightly less so, where life started to get a bit more serious, with marriage, children, mortgage, work, and the general responsibility that goes with those and other things. Still, a pretty good decade though, the 80s, after all, I was only in my twenties and very happily married.
Anyway, I’ve rambled on a bit too much, but I must say I like the site and the forum. It’s not a negative remark, but it’s a lot less serious than other blogs and forums around the place, where people can get far too serious and overanalyse things to death. There’s a time and place for the serious and analytical stuff, but not all the time. I only wish there was a bit more activity here and perhaps a few more members.
Awesome - the second Australian member I've come across in less than five minutes! It's quite a diverse group here. I love it!
Welcome James :)
Hello James and welcome. It's true, it's always good to have a new member with us to share in our reminiscing and happy memories. 😊
From one newbie to another, welcome! I'm also a fairly new member myself. Nineties baby and noughties teen (though my mum would definitely say naughty teen! 😁)
I don't get on here as much as I'd want to - but then there are loads of things I don't get around to doing as much as I'd like. That's life for you, mate! I've done a lot of travelling before setting up home in America but Oz was never a place I'd got to visit. But as it's on my list of places to travel to, I'm sure I'll be making my presence felt there one day... 😉
Another new member! Woo hoo! Welcome!
Hello James. Nice to see someone from my adopted homeland on here. Actually I think there might be a few and (I think) they're Brit expats like me now residing in Australia.
I think you'll find that most of us on here are a welcoming crowd so enjoy!
A big welcome to you James. It's always lovely to hear more about the people we share this space with and hear more about their memories and experiences of times gone by. That's what this site is all about!
I also like this site and connecting with folk who are all about the nostalgia. I'd go as far as to say that it's one of my happy places! 😄 I'd love to spend more time on here but living the busy life that I have, it's often a while before I'm able to pop back on. I'm sure it's the same for a lot of the site members here which is a shame because it would be great to hear more from everyone. And have more newbies on here as well!
Hello James, welcome and wow! That's one of the best intros we've ever read - thank you! It's always nice to hear about our fellow NP community members and hear a little bit about their 'nostalgic' years (please - ramble away! Although we wouldn't call it rambling!)
We really appreciate your kind comments. You're right about the lack of seriousness here (if 'seriousness' is even a word!) There are other sites for that if that's what people would prefer. We're here to indulge in fond memories, remember good times and just have fun with it! I think a lot of people are finding life a little heavy-going at the moment so we aim to keep this space as fun, nostalgic and as lighthearted as possible.
Well James we never turn away fellow nostalgiacs and would always happily welcome new members, so please feel free to spread the word.
Once again, welcome. Hope life in Sydney is treating you well 😊
