Well we knew it was coming and today Neighbours finally filmed their last episode. Even if you don't watch it any more, you have to admit that it's a very sad day for television. I know some fans clung to the hope that the show could be saved but it wasn't to be. 😪
As sad as it is I do wonder if the fact that Neighbours is a soap opera is one of the reasons why it got the chop. Even though I know soaps are still being watched (I love Corrie and occasionally tune into Eastenders and Hollyoaks) I don't believe that they're as popular as they once were. In Britain at least. When I was growing up soaps seemed to be the be all and end all. People would rush home to catch the latest episode of their favourite soap. The chat shows would always have interviews with soap actors and actresses, and the tabloids were full of stories about soap stars or upcoming storylines. And let's not forget that soap stars were very much in demand come panto season!
It all seems to be a very different story now. Does anyone here watch soaps avidly? Or do you think that soaps are well and truly on their way out?
It's been announced that Neighbours is making a very, very speedy comeback so I would say I don't think soaps have had their day! LOL!
