Are there any defunct soaps you watched when you were a kid which you would like to see resurrected?
There's a few I could think of but one I wouldn't mind seeing - and I'm probably alone in saying this - is Eldorado. Or El Dodo as the press dubbed it! Those of us that remember the soap set in Spain about the lives of British ex-pats know that for months, it was regarded as something of a joke. But once it was announced that Eldorado was to be axed, the soap started to get surprisingly addictive!
When it ended, viewers were left wondering about the outcomes of three cliffhangers, if I remember correctly. I know you have to be careful what you wish for, and I've always been left feeling quite disappointed by reboots. But the advantage of Eldorado not being a long-running soap is that it was still in its infancy when it was axed so if it was brought back, writers could go pretty much any way they wanted to without fear of alienating viewers.
So which soap would you like to see back on our screens?
Just think - one day someone on here will be saying Neighbours! 😁
I'm amazed no one has said Dynasty or Dallas. I used to watch those shows with my mom. Everybody watched those. I know that they've made newer versions of both shows but it was so far removed from the originals that they were pretty much like different shows.
I'm from Manchester so our top soap - Corrie - is of course still around. But I do wish they'd take it back to how the soap used to be. It was just about ordinary working class Mancunians and family life that reflected real-life - even though it was a soap. Now there's way too much over the top drama. I feel as though I'm watching one of those unbelievable American soaps rather than Coronation Street.
Unfortunately I never really watched Knots Landing because in the UK, that was shown during the day when people were at work/school. Had it been on in the evenings like Dallas was, I'm sure I would have been a fan.
I think it's no secret that I'm not a fan of reboots so I actually hope that they won't do a remake because I'm sure it'll never be as good as the original. So why not just show the original???
Even though I was quite young, I have memories of watching Knots Landing with my mother who was a huge fan of the soap. For those of you who don't know it, it was kind of like a spin off from Dallas, which to be honest, I didn't really care to watch. But it was set in CA, and growing up I always dreamed of living that kind of cool, Californian lifestyle. They are doing so many remakes of TV shows now. Why not Knots Landing?
Perhaps there should be a Facebook group to get Howard's Way back again? Although I'm thinking more in the way of repeats as I wouldn't like to see it being remade. It just wouldn't be the same.
Oh yes, I do remember Howard's Way! If I remember correctly it was shown on a Sunday evening. I'm a bit hazy with some of the storylines but I do remember the names of some of the characters - Abby, Avril, Tom, Edward/Edmund... And I know that Jan Harvey and Tracy Childs were household names back then.
I'm really not a fan of reboots I'm afraid so I'm hoping there won't be a remake of any kind. But I would never say no to Howard's Way being repeated...
I'll be honest. I don't really care a whole lot for soap operas today as their all a bit rubbish in my opinion. But one thing I would love to see even though I'm not sure if this is regarded as a soap opera is Howard's Way. It was about a rich family who owned a boat yard and was on in the 80s. Dynasty at sea it was! I think soaps back then were a lot better and I remember that my mum used to watch Howard's Way religiously so I wouldn't mind seeing that back. But somehow I don't think that the twenty first century remake will be as good as it was.
I ABSOLUTELY remember Savannah! I loved it! I watched it from the very first episode and made sure I never a missed a single episode. I thought it was brilliant and I was so disappointed when the show got axed. I understand that it didn't do too well in America, and after the first series was shown, the next one was given the graveyard slot so it clearly wasn't very popular in the UK either.
Peyton was vile but at the same time I couldn't help but admire her for being so ballsy! Reese was a sweetheart but sometimes I just wanted to shake her! But I think her revenge against Peyton and Tom was fantastic. Who would've thought that she had it in her!
It wasn't very popular in America so I guess the rest of the world won't know it at all but I really liked this 90s soap opera called Savannah. It focused on a group of best friends growing up in the south. I identified with a character called Peyton the most because we're both quite fiery and far from shy! Though that said I'd like to think I'm no where near as bitchy as she is and wouldn't dream of chasing after my bestfriend/sister's guy!
It was one of Aaron Spelling's shows so it's surprising that it flopped the way that it did. I felt the show could of gone alot further than it did.
I don't really watch soaps now. They're all a bit rubbish I'm sorry to say. Growing up I did watch all the usual ones and Corrie was always a hit in our house being Northern. I suppose if there's one I wouldn't mind seeing again it would be sunset beach. When it was on it seemed the whole country had gone mad for it. The storylines were ridiculous but we just had to watch it!
