This one is for all those of you who still watch Eastenders. As we all now know, Cindy Beale is alive and well and heading back to Walford after something like 25 years or something. Are you happy that she's been brought back or do you think she should have been left in the past? I've got mixed feelings about her coming back but I'll be very interested to see what happens.
I think now would be the perfect time for David Wicks to make an appearance!
Hmmm! I hate to say it but when a show has to bring back a character from a zillion years ago in such a dramatic fashion, it's a clear sign of a show that needs saving. There's nothing like a good dose of nostalgia to give the ratings a much needed boost. We saw this with Neighbours! I do remember Eastenders from back in the day and Cindy was one of the top characters of the show. In that sense I understand why they would want to bring her back and the witness protection storyline makes total sense given that she was doing time for attempted murder. But i do feel that her return, as some of you have said, hasn't been very realistic. Her and Ian for a start! There's no way she's in love with him. She never has been!
I have a feeling that most of Eastenders small group of viewers - I believe it's something like four or five million now - are youngsters who probably won't even remember Cindy and Ian the way some of us do which is an advantage for the current writers at Eastenders (many of whom probably don't remember or know the characters either!) as they can take them in any direction that they want.
I've been catching up on recent episodes and I've just seen Cindy's re-entry into Albert Square. You can agree with me or disagree with me but there's only one word that comes to mind - ridiculous! I was led to believe that there would be this almighty showdown with Kathy but instead the two of them ended up doing the catering for Cindy's long-lost daughter! Does anybody think that a woman who's just had the shock of her life by seeing her presumed-dead DIL after 25 years, the same DIL who tried to have her son killed, would be in the kitchen with her making sandwiches? Mad!
As I said in a previous comment, bringing back the Beales especially Cindy is all about ratings and I personally don't think it'll work. Though of course I could be wrong. A huge proportion of viewers who remember Cindy don't really watch Eastenders regularly now with many claiming that the show's just not the same any more. Eastenders now has a much younger audience, and I very much doubt they give two hoots about Cindy.
While I have mixed feelings about Cindy returning, I do hope that her daughters will be leaving some time soon. They are painful to watch!
We could turn it into a drinking game - every time Cindy flirts, cheats, gets fed up with Ian... LOL! I'm excited to see her back and wonder how well she'll fit into today's Walford.
Bring it on I say! Eastenders was brilliant back in the days when Cindy was in it. She's always had a knack for causing trouble so there's going to be fireworks aplenty that's for sure.
Not being an Eastenders fan I'm probably the wrong person to comment but I say she should have been left in the past. Cindy is a very iconic character but I can't see her working out well in 2023. It's a whole other show now.
It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens. I was still quite young when Cindy was written out of Eastenders but I do know that she was a very popular character and one that dominated many of the the soap's storylines at the time. I would absolutely like to see what's in store for the new-look Cindy.
I reckon it's twenty something years too late! She was a great character back in the nineties but that show has moved on. As much as we love nostalgia, I think some things have definitely had it's day.
