These days social media is such a huge part of our lives even though some of us try really hard for it not to be that way! Haha! I was having a conversation recently with some really good friends of mine who I have known since college. Back then we were all on MySpace. It was like the site to be on. Everybody had a MySpace account and if they didn't, you would wonder what was wrong with them! LOL! We never thought that anything could replace MySpace but then Facebook came along and I'm now wondering if anyone still has a MySpace account let alone uses it.
But it seems that MySpace wasn't the only social media site that people were using. Some people had accounts on Bebo and Friendster which were two, I believe, short-lived sites and I don't think they exist anymore but correct me if I'm wrong.
Did anyone else use MySpace or any of the other social media sites that were around at the time before Facebook entered our lives? Also it seems pretty obvious that Facebook is not as popular as it once was. Perhaps there'll be another site that comes along that people will be addicted to.
And finally does anyone know what happened to MySpace's Tom who was everybody's friend? Haha.
I was on Myspace and Friends Reunited. Then I got on Facebook and I never used anything else for a long time. I do have an Instagram though and Snapchat but Facebook is what I use the most as it's what my family back in London use the most even though I know a lot of other people are starting to come off it.
Oh gosh Myspace yes! That was one of mine! All my mates were on it so it was definitely our way of keeping in touch (even though we'd see them at school the next day!) and posting photos and stuff. Even when Facebook became huge, many of us were still using Myspace. I don't really know when all that started to die out but gradually we just used Myspace less and less and Facebook more and more. Like everyone else, I don't use Myspace anymore. So goodness knows what happened to Tom. I still have a Facebook but it's Instagram and Snapchat that I use regularly now. Even though I know Snapchat is an app and not a site but yes, that's how you can get a hold of me!
It's possible that I did have a Myspace account, though i don't think I ever really used it. It was all so long ago, I can't remember! LOL! I did use Friends Reunited as a lot of you here have talked about. I may have signed up for other things too but I know that Facebook is the site I've used the most and I'm still on that.
I'm glad a lot of people have mentioned Friends Reunited because that was the first one I was one. Believe it or not I did have friends. Its just that none of them wanted to reunite with me.
And then I went straight onto Facebook. I'm not on that so much any more although the account is still there. Now Instagram is a different story. Me and the Missus are both on it and we love it!
Friends Reunited and now Facebook and Instagram. I never had a Myspace account. A lot of the people I knew didn't have one and it just wasn't popular with my crowd. Though I'm sure the much younger members of my family may have used Myspace.
I think it would be easier to say which sites I weren't on - and to be honest, I can't think of any! Hehe! And let's not forget those chatrooms. I was on them long before those social media sites became a thing, which is how and where I met my husband! 😁 I still use Facebook and Instagram as a lot of you here have said which tells me that they're still the two most popular ones. But everything else not so much.
I used to be very anti-social media and refused to sign up to any social media sites. Though somehow I still ended up on Bebo and Friendster when my cousin invited me and I signed up without knowing what I was actually signing up for (don't do it, kids!) I didn't really do very much with it but around five years later, I DID end up with a Facebook account and a little later, a Myspace account - just as it was coming to an end but then I've always been late to every party!
I also used Orkut which was known but not used by a lot of people I know - very few in fact. And there was a very unknown site called Tagged that I somehow ended up on that I used quite regularly while everyone was Facebook crazy! Though only four of my friends were on it. 😂 I suppose Tagged was my little introduction to social media and so I later graduated to Facebook!
Friends Reunited! Now that's a real blast from the past. I did use that, and yes I used Myspace too. It may have started out as something for teens - well isn't that true for a lot of these social media sites - but lots of my friends were on it and moreover I was very much into the music scene back then so Myspace was great for following bands and discovering new ones and so on. With the exception of those two sites, I don't think I used anything else. Nowadays it's Facebook and mainly Instagram like some of you have said yourselves.
I use Facebook and Instagram now but I did of course use Myspace quite religiously. It was the site to use to keep in touch with your friends and let them know your news and stuff. I actually can't quite remember exactly when Myspace stopped being a 'thing.' I know people were still using it even when Facebook became real popular but somehow it faded away to nothing. It's pretty sad because that's a little bit of social history gone forever. And I do like my history! 😀
I did use Friends Reunited. I think everyone did! It was fantastic for finding people you went to school or work with. I do wonder what happened to it. One things for sure... No one uses FR anymore!
I also used Google+, I did have a Twitter account but don't really use that. I'm on Facebook of course and Pinterest but it's Instagram that's my absolute fave these days.
Oh wow, wow, WOW! This post has really taken me back. Yes I remember when MySpace was everything! Haha! Back in those days I used to travel a lot. Plus I was living and working on and off in Brazil, So MySpace was a great way to keep in touch with family and friends all over the world plus a way for them to keep up to date with where I was and what I was doing.
And yes I was on Friendster and Bebo. Though I don't think that was for very long (even though I'm sure I still have those accounts if those sites are still up and running) as I was more into MySpace and Facebook. I think the only thing I've never been on is Pinterest.
Oh I was also on Flickr though I'm not sure if that's social media exactly 🤔 And in Britain we had a site back in the day called Friends Reunited. It was probably one of the first social media sites that was popular in Britain before Facebook was.
These days it's all about Facebook and Instagram. And I have no idea what Tom is up to these days. Haha!
