I was still quite young when the eighties ended but I still have memories of the trends at that time. If ever I forget I just have to look at photos of my parents back then! I know the eighties is often described as the decade that style forgot, but there's still loads of things I liked from that time. For example, I loved those massive bows you used to get on dresses, or the combination of metallics and velvet together. Oh and the neons, I loved all those neon colours. It might seem a bit much now put all together, but who couldn't feel a bit more cheery when they see all those glow in the dark colours!
Is there a fashion trend from the eighties you would like to see return, and if so, which one?
I wore lots of luminous colours back in the eighties. Maybe a bit too much! I wouldn't mind if those colours made a comeback but I definitely wouldn't overdo it like I did back in the eighties! 😄
Evening or party wear back in the eighties was full on GLAM! I was a teenager back then so I loved wearing all those glitzy little numbers - though my mum still made sure that it was still appropriate for my age. Just like a mum for you! It would be interesting to return to those days of full on glamour but I'm wondering if it might be a bit much for women of today.
Oh and let's not forget stonewash denim jeans and jackets that were absolutely everywhere.
I loved my fluorescents as a lot of eighties kids did. Though looking back, I know there were times I overdid it. But it was the eighties. Everyone overdid everything 😂
Haha! Even though it doesn't suit my hair type - my sister can pull off big hair better than I can - I still love the huge hair of the eighties!
Well for dance I used to wear leotards, tights, leg warmers, oversize t-shirts and sweaters etc. In fact I still do. So that's pretty eighties!
And while it's not clothing, I would love to see big hair make a return because it definitely suits my hair type!
The 1980s was definitely a decade of flamboyance, and while everyone thinks that it was the decade that fashion forgot, I disagree. But then I would because my present day style is still quite influenced by the eighties! Haha! I love those baggy, off-the-shoulder t-shirts and sweaters; leg warmers, scrunched hair...
If there is one thing I would like to see come back again, it would be ra-ra skirts.
I know what you mean about the velvet and metallic combo - my aunts had loads of party dresses like that.
