What is Nostalgia Pie?

Nostalgia Pie (NP) is a blog and forum aimed at a community of like-minded individuals who are here to learn and give information, share memories and create a sense of community through a love of nostalgia, entertainment, pop culture and history.

Although you have to be over 18 to become a member and use the forum, there are no age restrictions with regards to viewing this site.

What Nostalgia Pie is not!

Nostalgia Pie is NOT a friendship, penpal, dating or matrimonial site. Neither is it a site for those seeking work, accommodation, business transactions, exchanging goods or services, or arranging meet-up groups. Any comments or posts that seem to be seeking any of the above will be removed and members will receive a warning.

We understand that through this site, bonds may be formed which will extend out into the 'real world' and that's fine - but users do so at their own discretion. Nostalgia Pie takes no responsibility for such activities or their outcomes.

 Obligations

  • We can't come over to your house and force you to, but it would be a good idea to read the site rules, members notes, disclaimer, and privacy policy before becoming a member. Yes, we know it's boring but we'd hate to think all this was typed out for nothing! It's all here in brown and cream, so cries of 'no one told me' and 'I didn't know' will be ignored.

  • Understand that any information and instructions given on this site, either by Nostalgia Pie, or a member are used at your own risk. By following or using any of this information you give up the right to hold Nostalgia Pie liable for any damages.

  • We ask you not to post any material which is knowingly false, inaccurate, harmful, threatening, harassing, invasive of a person's privacy, or tending unreasonably to discredit or malign. But understand that you and you alone are responsible for the content of what you write in the blog comments section or the forum- not Nostalgia Pie. However, we still have the right to delete any comments/posts that we believe are inappropriate.

  • Before becoming a member, you understand and agree that if you do something naughty (i.e. - against the rules) Nostalgia Pie has the right to modify, delete, edit or close any comment, post subscription or account at any time that we see fit. We also have the right to do so without notifying the member before, during or after! If you have any questions concerning this, please do not post on the message boards, but rather contact Nostalgia Pie using the contact form.

  • All members are obligated to behave responsibly and with due respect and consideration towards their fellow members and Nostalgia Pie. We all have to share this space in order to communicate so we want the Nostalgia Pie site to be a safe and comfortable environment for members to create a lively, fun, and harmonious community.

  • If you wish to query something or you need clarification of the rules, contact us using the contact form or email address.

With that in mind, we ask that all members please follow these simple rules in order to create an atmosphere where everyone feels happy and comfortable.

Be a friendly member

  • As a suggestion, it would be great for you to introduce yourself to everyone. You can do so in the Nostalgia Lounge if you wish. Everybody will make you feel welcome.

  • Be welcoming to new members. Nostalgia Pie is a fun and entertaining nostalgia blog and forum aimed primarily at people who share similar interests and have a love of (mostly) British pop culture from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but everyone is welcome to comment if they have something to contribute. Please don't make people feel unwelcome because you feel they're the 'wrong' nationality, grew up in the 'wrong' decade etc.

  • Share your knowledge. Don't hold back in sharing what you know – it's likely someone will find it useful or interesting. Just be sure that what you're sharing is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

  • Remember when a member responds to your request for advice/info on a particular topic, they are doing you a favour. Be polite and gracious even if the advice/info wasn't as useful as you had hoped.

Clear Communication is Essential!

  • All comments/posts should be written in English. This is not due to discrimination or problems with any specific languages but for practical reasons as NP does not have moderators who can read every language, therefore we cannot be sure that comments are in accordance with the rules.

  • Don't post all in CAPITALS as it's considered impolite and the equivalent of 'shouting'.

  • The Nostalgia Pie community has got a pretty good sense of humour but be warned - if you insult someone "jokingly", understand that it might not be interpreted that way.

Post Correctly

  •  Please don't post useless, meaningless, off-topic comments/posts. Your comments/posts will be removed if we see you posting unhelpful or non-contributing messages to our site.

  • Do not paste entire articles from web sites. Such comments/posts will be deleted. If you wish to reference an article on the web, link to its web address instead.

  • Don't be lazy by creating one sentence posts such as "Were you a Brosette or a Blockhead?". Explain which band you were a fan of, why you liked them, if you're still a fan, do you still have the memorabilia etc... If you make your post interesting to read; you're more likely to get quality responses.

  • Please give a clear, descriptive topic title. Titles such as "I have a question,' or 'Opinions wanted' don’t give any idea of what your post is about, and are unlikely to generate much interest. 'What was your favourite fashion trend from the eighties'? might get a better response.

  • But that said, please refrain from using attention-grabbing post titles, clickbait, and all caps. Such posts will be deleted.

  • All the forums are categorized by topics. Post in the correct category. Your content may get deleted or moved if not posted in the correct place.

  • If your message thread fits into more than one message board, choose the most appropriate message board for your thread. Do not post the same thread into multiple message boards or threads will be deleted.

  • Don’t hijack other people’s topics. Stay on topic and don’t start a new debate in the middle of a thread dedicated to another issue. If something new comes up within a topic that you would like to discuss, and you want to change the subject, please start a new message thread.

  • Don't create new threads when an existing one will do. Try to join an existing conversation rather than starting a new one. Use the search facility first to see if another member has already started a similar thread. It’s easy to search – just click the “Search” button at the top right of the page.

Respect other people's opinions

  • It's totally fine to disagree but please respect the opinions of others and accept that some people may have a viewpoint different to yours, so don't be insulting and rude. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but no one is entitled to attack others for that opinion. It is possible to disagree and still be polite.

  • And while Nostalgia Pie respects the right of every member to have their own viewpoint, please do not use this site as a vehicle for single-mindedly promoting an agenda.

This is not a place for hate

  • Would you say that in real life? Would you say that to someone's face? If not, it's probably not something that should be posted online. Don’t say something online that you wouldn’t say in real life. Use common sense when posting.

  • Nostalgia Pie is not the place for bullying behaviour, aggression, bad attitudes, naming and shaming, derogatory posts, offensive remarks, name-calling, and all other types of generally negativity and foolish behaviour.

  • Any material which constitutes defamation, harassment, or abuse is strictly prohibited.

  • Abuse in any form directed at Nostalgia Pie or it's members will not be tolerated.

  • Please do not post any kind of 'hateful' material intended to hurt or offend others. Comments/posts/videos/images etc that are racist, homophobic, sexist, misogynistic, misandrist, Islamaphobic, anti-Semitic, transphobic - in fact ANY kind of -ist, -tic, or -phobic will not be tolerated here. This includes users' profile pictures.

  • Linking to pornography, hate, racist, or other illegal sites is not permitted.

  • We want members to feel free to talk about any topic they feel is relevant, and providing that it's in context, we don't want to prohibit what might be considered 'controversial' topics i.e religion, politics, sexuality, NKOTB vs Take That etc. But remember the Good Lord gave us common sense for a reason so please use it. Choose your words carefully and please don't insult anyone's beliefs. You can respectfully disagree with someone and explain your perspective in a non-confrontational way.

  • Making hateful or threatening comments, directed at a person or group, will result in a warning, and if necessary, NP will report the member to the appropriate authorities. Your comment/post and membership will be deleted. Nostalgia Pie is not a place for any kind of hateful speech so please don't test us on this.

  • And just in case you didn't get the above, let us break it down for you:  We have a zero tolerance policy regarding any form of harassment, insult, personal attack, or inflammatory posting. We will also not tolerate any extremely offensive, sexual, vulgar or discriminatory language and materials on the forums. Nostalgia Pie has the right to delete such content and to ban accounts of violators without prior warning. So now you know.

Keep it classy!

  • We don't mind a bit of cheekiness or sass as long as it's tasteful and classy. But anything that's downright offensive, lewd, or pornographic has no place on this site so please do not post offensive comments, gestures, emojis, slurs, links, photos, videos, or music.

  • Material that is sexually or otherwise obscene, is not permitted on this site. This includes users' profile pictures.

  • Avatars must be in good taste. This means no vulgar or violent images, pornography, or profanity.

  • We understand that everyone's language can be a little colourful sometimes. And while the odd mildly 'rude word' won't have us reaching for the smelling salts, obsceneties every other word and excessive profanity is not acceptable.

No stirring or trolling

  • Unless you're making porridge, please don’t stir the pot. Picking fights and starting conflicts for the hell of it is incredibly childish. It's not big, it's not clever - don't do it.

  • This site defines "trolling" as the posting of controversial (sometimes off-topic) messages with the intent of baiting other members to reply.

  • Unfortunately, as with every site, there is the possibility that Nostalgia Pie might attract the attention of internet trolls; sad, attention-seeking, little people who have nothing better to do than seek to cause disharmony among genuine users by making spurious or inflammatory comments. Anyone suspected of this kind of behaviour will be warned by Nostalgia Pie.

  • We don't care if you know the three billy goats gruff personally, trolls are not welcome here. We can usually tell when someone has posted with the intention of enticing fights and getting followers riled up. Such comments will be deleted.

  • Please do not feed the trolls. If they want attention that badly they can apply to go on Big Brother or Love Island.

Some things should be kept private

  • This is a site that deals with nostalgia but we know that during discussion, talk can turn to other subjects. Please be aware that there is such a thing as 'too much information' so think before you post.

  • Respect the privacy of others so please don't publish people's personal information and contact details - especially without their permission.

  • Do not make slanderous comments, or anything else that might violate someone's privacy - and that includes that of celebrities.

  • Do not use the comments to expose the wrongdoings and misdemeanors of others. No matter how much of a dumb-dumb that person may be. There are other sites for that kind of thing - but not here.

  • You may not discuss disciplinary actions by Nostalgia Pie publicly. This includes – but is not limited to – actions such as account banning or deletion of comments.

This is not a school canteen so we don't want spam!

  • Spamming is not permitted; please keep all your comments as constructive as possible.

  • This site defines spam as:

- unsolicited advertisement for goods, services and/or other web sites,

- posts with very few words (seven words or less) or completely unrelated

content which do not contribute to a forum thread in a positive manner.

- sending private messages to a large number of different users.

  • Do not spam the comments with links to your site or product, or try to self-promote your website, business or forums etc.

If you have an issue with Nostalgia Pie...

  • Should you wish to query a decision, please get in touch with us privately via email - please do not use the comments to complain - and we will respond as soon as possible.

  • Arguing your point with us or refusing to do, or stop doing something we have talked to you about, will not be tolerated. Behaving in a manner that makes Nostalgia Pie's job harder than it needs to be is not a smart move.

  • Please note that the forum/comments section are not a technical support channel. However we ask you to report all your account issues to Nostalgia Pie by using the contact form, and we will try to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

  • Nostalgia Pie will not delete content on request - especially if it's not yours.

  • Disregarding warnings or instructions given to you by Nostalgia Pie can result in further consequences.

The messages express the views of the author of the message, and not necessarily the views of Nostalgia Pie or any entity associated with Nostalgia Pie.

  • We insist that members do not offer or solicit medical, psychiatric, psychological, or legal advice. If those are the kinds of advice that you're looking for then you are clearly in the wrong place and there are other sites for that.

  • Please note that we reserve the right to amend and modify the site rules at any time. It is the member’s responsibility to keep updated on forum rules.
