Just been able to catch up with the Jubilee episode of Easties. I'm more of a Corrie girl but I had to watch Eastenders when I heard that the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall were making a special appearance as part of the show's special episode to mark the Queen's platinum jubilee. And by golly - didn't they do well!
I found it to be well written and quite moving as well. You could see the that the awe from those gathered around them was from the actual actors themselves and not from the characters they were meant to be playing. More episodes like this please, EastEnders.
And just to let you into a little secret even though I know it'll sound like I'm bragging. But I actually meant the Duke of Cornwall many years ago when he paid a visit to our offices. And I have to say - we were a lot like the residents of Albert Square let me tell you!
I'm also not what you would call a royalist much like a lot of you here. But I thought the scenes were very good and that Charles and Camilla did very well. Also for this British girl living in Oz, it was a lovely reminder of home. You can't get more British than the royals now can you?
I'm not a royalist but credit where credit is due and I think that the royals did a great job in this episode. It's about time we had a bit of cheer in Albert Square!
It was a brilliant episode. I could happily watch those scenes on repeat!
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by their performance. But then they've spent a lot of their lives in front of the camera - Charles especially. So I suppose it's fair to say that they know what they're doing.
I did watch it and I thought it was a lovely episode. For those who think that they royals are all stuffy and up themselves, need to watch this episode of Eastenders. One of the best I reckon. And Charles and Camilla did us all proud.
It was a very enjoyable episode. It was great to see the Duke and Duchess laughing and joking with everyone. And Patrick was hilarious!
Unfortunately we're back to Easties doing grim again! 😒
I haven't watched the episode yet but I did know that Charles and Carmella were going to be in it. To be honest I'm not that much of a fan of the royal family. I know everyone expects me to be because I'm from Britain but to me they're not that much of a big deal even though I know they are a big part of our heritage. And now with all the scandals that have been going on I'm even less of a fan. But it will still be interesting to check out the episode as everyone is saying is was so good.
I loved it! I thought it was an amazing episode and I think Charles and Camilla did a great job. I have no idea if their scenes were scripted or not because it all came across so natural. Maybe too natural because I totally agree with Egg Yolk, it almost felt as though it were the actors who were talking to the Duke and Duchess and not the Walford characters.
I don't mind admitting that I got a little emotional watching this episode as it reminded me of the episodes of Easties of years gone by, when there was a lot more laughter and jubilation (yes, it is true, those of you who think it's all gloom and doom down on Albert Square!) and everyone was always up for a good street party East End style. And while Mick and Linda did an excellent job of guiding the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall around the Square and introducing them to the residents, all I could see was Peggy Mitchell! The late Barbara Windsor would definitely have been in her element in these scenes.
And of course it was very moving when the Duchess of Cornwall pinned a ribbon onto the tree dedicated to domestic abuse victims and survivors.
I often feel that the storylines in EastEnders are getting more grim and darker by the minute. As someone who's watched EastEnders since the beginning, I do miss the humour and community spirit that the show used to represent. But I saw it back again on Thursday.
So EastEnders please take note and give us more episodes that give us a reason to smile.
And good on Sharon for locking up that ghastly Janine in the basement. Long may she stay there!
I loved this episode. I dip into soaps every now and again (although with Neighbours on its way out, I'm definitely watching a lot more of it!) and I'm so glad I caught this episode. Eastenders has always been known as a very depressing soap, with miserable characters and lots of shouting. But Thursday's episode was anything but! It really was very, very joyous, and the Duke and Duchess really excelled themselves. Brilliant episode.
