Those of you who watch Eastenders will know that a few characters have been axed which have shocked a lot of viewers. Lola Pearce, Peter Beale, Stewart Highway, Jada, and Dana are all out. It's quite sad as the last two are relatively new and not given much of a chance. And I'm really surprised about Lola because she's been in the show for a while and part of the mighty Mitchell family.
It shouldn't really be a surprise as this seems to happen whenever there is a new boss at Eastenders. They tend to get rid of certain characters, some that seem quite popular and bring in a bunch of new characters. Sometimes some of these axings seem quite unnecessary but what do I know! In the nineties they got rid of Ruth Fowler, The entire Dimarco family, Sanjay and Gita and a whole load of others. Then in the mid noughties it was Roy Evans and Mark Fowler. The worst axing they ever did was Ronnie and Roxy in 2017. What were they thinking???
Is there any current EE character that needs to be shown the door now along with the others? And what did you make of past decisions to axe what seemed like popular characters?
Stewart and Rainy have left thank goodness. I really hope they won't be back because I found them to be so boring as a couple. I think they should also get rid of the little Panasar brother because he seems like a pointless character to me. And also Jay - what storyline does he actually have? All he seems to do is pick up after Ben.
I think getting rid of the Mitchell sisters was madness. I don't know who's idea that was.
Judging by yesterday's episode it's inevitable that Phil and Sharon will be getting back together at some point. Boring! We've had this storyline over the last three decades. And as we know that Alfie is coming back, it's pretty obvious where Kat's attention is going to be drawn to... And it's not Phil! Again - boring!
It's about time that Eastenders stopped bringing back characters that are past their sell-by date. And by that I'm not talking about age! Sharon is a good example. I'm not really sure where she can go from here as she seems to have done everything. So yeah out with the old but bring in some exciting new characters.
Hmmm... I think it'd be easier to say which characters I'd like to see stay in EastEnders... and that's Kim! And Patrick. And I'm glad Kim Medcalf is back. But if I'm honest I think that the problem really does lie behind the scenes with the writers and the show's bosses, and maybe that's where the changes need to start rather than with the cast.
Out of the characters that have been written out, the only one I'm sorry to see go is Jada. She's part of the Watts' legacy and the mother of Sharon's last link to her son Dennis - Alyssa. I think more could have been done to develop Jada's story and character.
Please could someone take Ben Mitchell with them. This new Ben especially has always been a misery, I don't feel he brings anything to the show and I feel that the only reason why he's still there is because he's a Mitchell.
I'm not much of soapy type person these days though I do tune in from time to time albeit very rarely. And in any case I'm usually aware of what's going on in soapland. But I used to be a big Eastenders fan when it was first on and Den and Angie were in it. But these days it's so depressing. It has been for a while to be honest. It's not the show it once was and when I do watch it, it's awful and full of people who can't act. And what on earth have they done to Kathy and Sharon? Kathy has virtually no real role in it so why they brought her back I don't know. And Sharon is still a Mitchell puppet 30 years on.
Get rid of the lot of them!
There's quite a few that need the chop. But if you see my list there'll be no one left! That said I am glad that they brought back Kim Medcalf as Sam. She's also a reminder of the last good period of EE before it all started to ever so slowly slide downhill. I've also heard that Rainie is leaving but I don't know how true that is.
I'm in total agreement with the actors who are not having their contracts renewed. I never got why they brought back Lola and the Peter actor just didn't cut it for me. I'm not saying he's a bad actor but he just wasn't Peter Beale. Maybe because Ben Hardy was a tough act to follow. But I think they should get rid of all the Panesars except the mum, and Dotty Cotton as well.
I reckon they need to get rid of the lot of them and bring in a whole new cast! LOL. Some of these characters including some of the more iconic ones are well past their sell-by date. Phil, Kat, Stacey... They're no where near as good as they used to be.
I did read about the recent characters who had been written out and I have to say I don't understand some of the choices. Peter Beale won't be leaving for good. He's one of he most recast characters, so they'll bring him back soon enough played by another actor. I always thought Lola was quite popular so I'm shocked she's being written out. But I wish Stuart had left ages ago. And he can take Rainie with him. Not to mention his gran. I love Gwen Taylor but can't stand this Vi character.
I remember in the late nineties I think it was when a whole bunch of Eastenders characters got the chop. It had made front page news and I remember reading that many of the cast members who were told that they were being written out were in tears. I didn't care much for Sanjay and Gita and with the exception of the Dimarco brothers and their mum, I wasn't bothered about the rest of them leaving. But I thought it was madness getting rid of Ruth Fowler. She and Mark were a brilliant couple. It was lovely watching her being so supportive to her husband who had HIV and especially when the Square found out and turned against him. Sometimes I don't know what these writers are thinking!
I think there's a lot that still needs to be axed. Starting with the writers if you ask me.
I thought Ronnie and Roxy were great, strong female characters and really gave the Mitchell brothers a run for their money. So who's idea it was to get rid of them and what they were on when they made that decision, I just don't know! Plus they were great actresses which is more than I can say for a lot of the current cast.
But I was stunned when Todd Carty who played Mark Fowler was axed somewhere around 2003 I think. He was a fantastic character who had the potential to keep going. It seems stupid to get rid of such a good actor and replace him with actors who are quite substandard but what do you do!
